The Diamond 7 Bar is now pleased to offer you the
opportunity to come and share a taste of
Real Ranch Living. Nestled in the north east corner of Wyoming between
Devil’s Tower and Black Hills National Forest there are 10,000 acres of
privately owned land. We are excited to share the unique experience of being an
authentic ranch hand on an actual working cattle ranch for a few days! We think
this is one of the most beautiful spots in the world and would love to have you
come and enjoy all it has to offer!
The ranch house still sits on the spot where the Mahoney
family built the original log cabin when it was homesteaded in 1886. Beth Reilly
is the great granddaughter of Hiram Mahoney and daughter of Gerald Mahoney.
While it was Hiram, Gerald’s grandfather that originally homesteaded it was
through Gerald’s hard work and innovative thinking that the Diamond 7 Bar became
what it is today. That work ethic and creative thinking is a tradition Beth and
her husband Pat strive to continue as they raise their family in the same spot
where the family has lived since 1886.
A typical stay at the Diamond 7 Bar will begin with check-in
at noon Monday followed by lunch with the Wranglers and a guided tour of the
ranch ending back at the ranch house for supper. Be sure to have cameras out and
expect to see wildlife. Deer, Antelope, Elk, Turkeys, Eagles, Raccoons,
Porcupines, Beaver, Mountain Lions, Bobcats and lots of other critters all
reside on the ranch. If you like to hunt Pat will fill you in on all the details
about scheduling a hunt with us!
The rest of the stay (Tuesday-Friday) will unwind as
follows:
Breakfast is cereal, juice, coffee and such in your quarters
on your own. We’ll provide the grub but you gotta fix it yourself. If ya want
your bed made be sure it’s done before we meet up for the day cuz at the Diamond
7 Bar we all do our own housekeeping. When ya need fresh towels or the trash
emptied one of the wranglers will take care of that. Other wise ya better bring
your Ma along!
Work on the ranch kicks in with the days events scheduled
according to what needs to be done to run an honest to goodness working cattle
ranch. While you are here you may participate in anything from driving cattle,
mending fence (The never ending job with 10,000 acres to be tended.), grass has
to be planted, mowed, and baled depending on when you are with us, sometimes the
cattle need to be doctored, the chickens have to be fed and eggs collected every
day, we have horses on the ranch but they pretty much get to do what they want
unless we’re driving cattle, sometimes machinery needs attention, or we could be
working on a project to enhance the operation. There is always something that
needs to be done cuz this ain’t no Dude Ranch!
All the wranglers (That means you too!) meet around the
table for lunch unless we’re working on a project we know will keep us out and
about. If that is the plan we pack lunch and take it with us.
After the chores are done we gather around the table for
some hearty home cooking and story telling if we aren’t too tired. This is a
cattle ranch so if you want Tofu bring it with you cuz most nights Beef is
what’s for Dinner. We could arrange a meal featuring wild game upon request.
After supper you’re on your own. If we’re doing something and you’d like to join
us you’re most likely welcome just ask!
Or there is always the Hot tub, the pool table, the Big
screen TV (Unless you’re in the bunkhouse.), ATV’s to ride, lots of places to
hike, or just hang out and enjoy the natural beauty of the ranch. All activities
are at your own risk and every guest must sign a statement holding the ranch and
its wranglers blameless in the unlikely event of a mishap.
You will receive a schedule of the weeks planned activities
when you check-in. If you decide to take a day off there are lots of great
things to do in the area. It is an easy drive to Devil’s Tower (You can see it
from the ranch.), Mount Rushmore, Historic Deadwood, Spearfish Canyon, and all
the great things to do in the Black Hills. Or you can always decide to lounge
around the ranch. Please let us know if you won’t be here for meals cuz we’ll
plan on you unless you tell us not to.
Check out will be noon Saturday
